Air Source vs Ground Source

Grants available in England and Wales of up to £7500!

Air and Ground Source Heat Pumps are both highly efficient renewable energy sources that heat homes by using naturally occuring heat from the environment. Which option is best for your home?

Air Source Heat Pumps

  • Work by pumping heat from the air.
  • Do not require a large garden area for installation as the pump is mounted on the outside of the property.
  • If clients are looking to use more than 1 ASHP then Planning Permission will be required.
  • Energy usage can increase during cooler times of the year and decrease in the warmer months.
  • A property will need to be well insulated to receive the full benefit of the system.
  • Less expensive to install due to unit only installation.
  • System lifespan 20-25 years with little maintenance required.

Ground Source Heat Pumps

  • Extracting heat from an underground piped system.
  • Depending on the heat load of the property a large garden area may be required for installation.
  • Low noise output.
  • Very little energy fluctuations year round due to constant underground temperatures.
  • A property will need to be well insulated to receive the full benefit of the system.
  • Requires groundworks to install system therefore will work out more expensive than an air source heat pump.
  • System lifespan 25+ years underground accessories 50+ years.
  • Little maintenance required.

What our customers say

“Baddow Heating have been installing our integrated heating and hot water systems for over a decade. Their experience with renewable energy, flexibility and continued commitment to providing excellent customer service, regardless of the size and complexity of the project, make us look forward to recommending them to our clients for many years to come.”

Alex Thompson, Operations Manager, Chelmer Heating Solutions

I was most impressed with the way in which you discussed with me the work to be carried out and how much it would cost, before you went ahead with the job. I particularly liked the fact that your young man arrived on time and his appearance was very smart. He worked quickly and efficiently and took great care to ensure he made as little mess as possible. I was most satisfied with the work carried out and will certainly recommend Baddow Heating to my family and friends.

Mrs Cynthia Walker, Chelmsford

Since we were introduced to Baddow Eco Solutions, they have provided an excellent service, as Heating Engineers and Plumbers for sustainable energy solutions. Their advice and guidance to us and our clients has been invaluable, giving us the confidence in their knowledge and installation abilities. We have no hesitation in recommending them, both to private customers and to the building trade.

Hibbs & Walsh Associates Limited, Architects in Saffron Walden

We contacted Baddow Eco Solutions for a complex refurbishment, full installation of underfloor heating, an Air Source Heat Pump with zoned controls. They worked well with our builder’s programme and helped keep our building schedule on track. We would thoroughly recommend.

Mr & Mrs Lloyd, London Road, Maldon, Essex

Baddow Eco Solutions were recommended to us by another customer and they designed and installed a complete Ground Source Heating System and MVHR for our new build oak frame house. Paul was always really helpful and answered all our many questions and was happy to work directly with our building contractor. This was great for us and made things as smooth as possible.

Baddow are one of the few experts in this new field and we would thoroughly recommend them.
